WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hunter Harvey’s bloodline is showing.
In his last three relief appearances for the Washington Nationals, Harvey has registered three strikeouts in each outing.
The Nationals’ home game on Friday night against Pittsburgh was rained out — setting up a doubleheader on Saturday before a game on Sunday.
A four-game series beginning Monday in D.C. brings the Chicago Cubs to town.
Harvey — the son of former big-league reliever Bryan Harvey (both are Bandys High graduates) — has not pitched since Wednesday night when he added another sterling outing in his 74th career major league game.
Washington won 4-1 at the New York Mets before a crowd of 20, 191 with Harvey (0-0) going 1 2/3 innings and gaining his sixth hold of the season. He did not allow a hit or run and struck out three, lowering his ERA to 2.61.

The outing was Harvey’s 10th of the year. He has pitched 10 1/3 innings and struck out 13, boosting his career record to 3-3 with an ERA of 2.82.
Harvey’s fifth hold came April 21, part of a four-game stretch in which he threw 4 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out 10.
Opponents are hitting .143 against Harvey in April, and how he is faring is not going unnoticed.
In the most recent stretch, Harvey faced Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani of the L.A. Angels and struck out both of them (he got Trout in the sixth inning with a 98 miles per hour fastball).
Harvey, a right-hander who entered pro baseball as a first-round pick by Baltimore (No. 22 overall selection in 2013), also struck out the side in Minnesota in a dominant appearance there.
His last four appearances have been at the Angels, at home against Cleveland, at Minnesota and this week at the Mets.
