WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hunter Harvey pitched for the third time this week — after his return from a rehab assignment — and gave up two runs on Saturday.
Harvey, a right-hander out of Bandys High, entered the game for the host Washington Nationals in the seventh inning, when they were trailing Atlanta by a run.
The Braves got two hits off Harvey and scored two runs (both earned) before a crowd of 37,880. He walked one and struck out two after throwing strikes on 18 of 28 pitches to 10 batters.
The game included a rain delay of one hour, 50 minutes.
The series continues on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. in Washington.
After the All-Star game break, Washington starts a three-game series at Arizona on Friday before then playing a three-game series (July 26-27) against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Since returning to the Nationals, Harvey has pitched one inning against Seattle and one inning twice in appearances against the Braves, leaving him at 0-0 with a 3.18 ERA in seven games this season (seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings).
It was Harvey’s 33rd major league game, and he is 1-2 with an ERA of 3.38 in those games with 30 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
A 2013 first-round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles, Harvey joined the Nationals when they claimed him off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, who picked him up off waivers from the Orioles (he was in spring training with the Giants but did not pitch).
