HUNTER HARVEY: Gains second big league win as Nats nip Athletics in 10 innings

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey gained his second major league win — and his first in a bit more than three seasons — as the Washington Nationals edged Oakland 7-5 on Thursday night in D.C.

Pitching before a crowd of 26, 817, Harvey threw the 10th inning and gave up one hit, two runs (one earned) with two walks and two strikeouts.

He left with Oakland up by two runs then became a winning pitcher when the Nats scored four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Harvey, a right-handed reliever in his first year with Washington, is 1-0 with an ERA of 2.88 after 26 games this season. In 25 innings this year, he has 31 strikeouts.

He threw strikes on 18 of 32 pitches to six batters on Thursday night, picking up his first big league win since Baltimore — the team that originally drafted him in the first round in 2013 — beat visiting Kansas City on Aug. 20, 2019.

After 52 career appearances, Harvey is 2-2 with an ERA of 3.14 with 54 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings.

Washington (44-86) begins a three-game series at the New York Mets on Friday night and then plays a four-game series at St. Louis staring on Monday night.
