WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hard-throwing reliever Hunter Harvey has worked his way back to the major leagues.
After being out since April 21 and completing rehab assignments in a Florida rookie league and then Triple A Rochester (N.Y.), Harvey was called up last Sunday by the Washington Nationals.
He was on a 10-day disabled list and then the 60-day list nursing a forearm injury and then some discomfort in his right tricep.
Harvey pitched one inning on Wednesday against Seattle, striking out one, and threw one inning on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves (one strikeout).
Those two appearances, both in Washington, moved Harvey to 31 career appearances in the majors with a 1-2 record, ERA of 2.86 with 28 strikeouts ion 28 1/3 innings.
The Nationals continue at home against Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday before the All-Star break. After the break, Washington starts a three-game series at Arizona next Friday before the playing a three-game series (July 26-27) against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Harvey has now pitched in six games for the Nationals this season (0-0, 0.00 ERA, five strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.) He had made four appearances before going on the disabled list. He missed 71 games.
A 2013 first-round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles, Harvey joined the Nationals when they claimed him off waivers from the San Francisco Giants, who picked him up off waivers from the Orioles (he was in spring training with the Giants but did not pitch).
