BALTIMORE – Eduardo A. Encina, the Baltimore Orioles beat writer for the Baltimore Sun, is reporting former Bandys High star right-hander Hunter Harvey has been throwing in the bullpen.

Encina recently posted on a report that Harvey, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, threw a bullpen session on May 30 in Sarasota, Fla., and is being projected for a return to live in-game pitching in the minor leagues by perhaps as earlier as the end of this month.

Harvey, 22, was taken with the No. 22 overall pick by the Orioles in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft and has a career 7-7 record in minor league baseball during stints with Aberdeen (Md.), the Gulf Coast Orioles and Delmarva, Md., with 157 strikeouts and 45 walks.

He missed all of the 2015 season with an injury and was sidelined the next season after five games.

Harvey is about 10 months removed from the TJ surgery and reports are indicating he could be pitching in lower level minor league games in late June or early July and may possibly pitch in a longer season league as the 2017 season winds down.

Harvey, son of former two-time All-Star relief pitcher Bryan Harvey, remains one of baseball’s top prospects and is projected to be working again in 2018 toward reaching the major leagues.
