WE’VE GOTCHA COVERED: Why we’re the No. 1 place if you want to follow winter sports

HobbsDailyReport.com

If you’re already a frequent visitor to our free website devoted to coverage of local sports in the Greater Hickory area – or if you’re a new visitor – we welcome you.

Here’s a general idea of what HobbsDailyReport.com will provide in the varsity winter sports of girls’ and boys’ basketball, wrestling and swimming, as we continue to provide you the most timely and most consistent way to follow high school sports (plus Lenoir-Rhyne University and Catawba Valley Community College basketball, men and women) in the area:

On a nightly basis, our game plan is to provide you:

  • Varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball, wrestling and swimming scores as quickly as those results are received or tracked down. To access our High School Scoreboard — compliments of page sponsor Burke Mortuary — go to High School Scoreboard near the top of the page, click the drop-down arrow and click on High School Scores (to the extreme left). Check back often, as the list will be updated many times.
  • Game, match and meet summaries from teams in the South Fork 2A, Northwestern Foothils 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A, as reported by each school. Those summaries will be posted as they are received, and we’ll be working on posting all of them received until about 1 a.m. every night. If you’re not up then, visit first thing in the morning and we’ll have all of the summaries we’ve received up for your review.
  • After the teams have gone through a few playing dates, we’ll have varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball standings… and we’ll also provide periodic glances at each conference’s wrestling standings. We’re the only media outlet that provided fall sports standings in the leagues on a consistent basis.

Additionally, you will be able to find a schedule of the week’s high school events, as well as a daily schedule of high school events scheduled in the three conferences. We’ll also do as many preview capsules on basketball as possible, as a majority of the 46 teams in the three conferences have already responded to a request for team information – plus team schedules will be posted ASAP.

Our site, launched in early April, is FREE because of ads from the businesses you see … and HobbsDailyReport.com encourages you to thank those sponsors. Each of the 23 schools in the three conferences has a page devoted to its athletic programs (to access go to High School Scoreboard’s drop-down menu and click on your favorite school). We are currently looking for school page sponsors for: a) basketball season only; b) the rest of the school athletic year; c) site sponsors for the 2018-2019 athletic year. If interested contact us at HobbsDailyReport@gmail.com for further information.

  • We’re going to be the only avenue for an avid high school basketball fan to follow what develops and happens daily in the South Fork 2A, Northwestern Foothills 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A. The website is owned and operated by the most veteran reporter of high school basketball in Western North Carolina, as Chris Hobbs is beginning his 43rd season following and reporting on teams in the Greater Hickory area (see about Chris Hobbs on the site).
  • Having results in a timely fashion – the night of the games or by early the next morning – will be a big part of the mix at HobbsDailyReport.com. Unlike other media outlets, we’ll be OK with getting boys’ basketball to you, as we don’t have to be done well before those games could reasonably end. Why wait, when conference seasons roll around, to reading about Tuesday’s big games in print on Thursday and Friday’s big games maybe by Sunday? As we have since we came into being nearly seven months ago, we’ll save you money – at least a buck a day – by making our website your place for local sports news in the Greater Hickory area.

Thanks for visiting … and our staff of one – which has produced nearly 1,600 posts – looks forward to having you follow sports with us for many years to come.
