St. Stephens High’s overpowering wrestling team is headed to the state dual-team 3A championship match after winning four matches in two nights.

The Indians (42-0) face East champion Cape Fear (12-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum for the 3A title.

Wrestling at Asheboro High on Thursday night, St. Stephens topped Piedmont 37-30 in the third round, then beat Southeast Guilford 45-31 for the West 3A crown.

The Indians opened the 3A bracket on Wednesday — a day later than originally scheduled because of forecasts for inclement weather — and won 55-24 at Statesville in the first round and 36-31 over Enka to earn a spot in Asheboro.

Southeast Guilford, which finished 23-4, beat Asheboro 42-25 to get to the West 3A final.
