GREENSBORO – Bandys High returned to the top of state dual-team wrestling on Saturday, dominating Bunn 60-18 for a 2A title with 10 victories — all by pins—at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse.
The Trojans (28-4) — guided by head coach Justin Adams — tied the state mark for points scored that was previously set by West Wilkes (1A) in 2012 and West Lincoln (2A) in 2019.
Bandys was the top seed in the West and Bunn (18-2) was the No. 1 seed from the East.
The state title is the third in three tries for the Trojans, who beat Croatan for 2A titles in 2005 and 2006 (they also shared a team individual tournament title with Brevard in 2004 and won that title in 2005 and 2006).
On Saturday, the Trojans completed a red-hot come back to prominence at the state level. Two years ago, they went 8-30 and they won 20 matches the next season.
Bandys roared to a big lead over Bunn, going up 30-0 by the time Ian Moore pinned Damarion Watkins in four minutes, 48 seconds.
Caleb Moore, named MVP, had a 19-second pin at 160 pounds over Anthony Garcia as the Trojans continued to roll.
Bandys wrapped up a title at 220 pounds when Austin Cline, with the Trojans leading 42-0, pinned Gabriel Soso in 2:27.
