HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: St. Stephens wins, off to 4-1 start

Indians are home on Saturday with N-C, Lincoln Charter visiting

Sparked by 33 assists, 12 serving points and seven digs by Cassi Edwards, the St. Stephens High volleyball team won again on Thursday.

The Indians (4-1) swept visiting Bunker Hill 25-11, 25-11, 25-14 as Edwards also had two aces.

Kennedy Moulton added nine kills and four blocks, Julia Gnida had 10 kills and Kelsey Plumley provided five aces among her 10 service points for St. Stephens.

The Indians are home on Saturday (9 a.m.), facing Newton-Conover and Lincoln Charter.

St. Stephens’ Western Foothills 3A schedule begins Tuesday at home against North Lincoln (6:30 p.m.).

Fred T. Foard 3, Davidson Day 2: The Tigers, playing at home on Thursday, won the fifth set 15-12.

Foard won the first two sets 24-12 and 25-15 but Davidson Day rallied for wins of 25-21, 25-20 to force another set.

Laney Craig led the Tigers with 14 kills, seven digs and three aces while Maya Beatty added five kills and 13 digs.

Averie Dale provided six kills, six blocks and 20 assists and Taylor Ramseur added six kills and three blocks while Zoie Cloninger had six kills, Natigan Crutchfield had 15 digs and Hailey Allison provided 10 assists for Foard (3-0).

The Tigers open Western Foothills 3A play on Monday (6 p.m.) at home against East Lincoln.

Maiden 3, Lincoln Charter 2 (Wednesday): The Blue Devils won at home 25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 8-25, 15-12.

Payton Miller had nine kills and 27 digs to spark Maiden while Ilysa Barr added 12 kills and 19 digs, Aleah Ikard had 15 assists and 18 digs and Annalee Smith added nine assists and 12 digs.

East Lincoln 3, Maiden 1 (Tuesday): The Mustangs won at home 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19 despite 12 kills and 13 digs by Barr, Miller’s five kills and 18 digs, nine assists and 10 digs by Ikard and Smith providing 11` assists and 10 digs for the Blue Devils.

Fred T. Foard 3, Maiden 0 (Monday): The Tigers won 26-24, 25-17, 25-18 at Maiden when Dale had 11 digs, nine kills, 12 assists and three aces.

Also for Foard, Craig made 14 kills and 11 digs, Beatty added 12 digs and six kills, Crutchfield had 15 digs, Allison provided nine assists and three aces, Camyrn Reid had eight assists and Taylor Ramsey made five kills.

Miller had 11 kills and four aces for the Blue Devils with Barr adding five kills and 13 digs, Ikard adding five assists and 16 digs and Smith finishing with seven assists and five kills.

St. Stephens 3, Alexander Central 0 (Monday): The Indians swept the Cougars in Taylorsville, 25-15, 25-12, 25-20.

Ginia had seven kills, Olivia Eckard made four kills and Taylor Kelly provided 13 service points for the Indians.

Maiden 3, Alexander Central 2 (Aug. 18): The Blue Devils won in Taylorsville 19-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-13 after dropping the first two sets.

Miller paced Maiden with 10 kills and Barr provided nine kills and 28 digs. Smith had 23 assists, Ikard made 11 assists, Emily Dover had five kills and four blocks and Parker Sweet closed with 31 digs.

Fred T. Foard 3, Bandys 0 (Aug. 18): The Tigers won at home 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 when Dale had 11 kills, 19 assists and five blocks.

Craig added 14 kills, Crutchfield had 16 digs and Samaria Tripps added six kills for Foard.

Kings Mountain 3, St. Stephens 0 (Aug. 18): The host Mountaineers won in straight sets 25-20, 25-13, 25-23.

St. Stephens 3, Maiden 0 (Aug. 17): Kelly had service receptions, seven digs and an ace, leading the Indians’ win at Maiden.

Gnida added six service points (one ace), seven digs, 11 kills, two blocks and eight service receptions and Edwards finished with 40 assists, five digs and an ace among her five service points for St. Stephens.

For Maiden, Miller had seven kills, Barr had three kills and 10 digs, Sweet made nine digs and Smith had 10 assists.

North Lincoln 3, Maiden 2 (Aug. 16): The Knights won 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 26-28,k 15-13 at home to start Maiden’s season.

Miller had 12 kills and 24 digs for Maiden while Barr added 11 kills and 31 digs, Addie Palmer posted 17 assists and Smith finished with 19 assists and seven kills.

Alexander Central 3, Statesville 1 (Aug. 15): The Cougars opened their season on the road, inning 25-14, 25-23, 16-25, 25-21.

Ashlyn Merritt lead the Cougars with seven kills while Allie Patton and Madalyn Motley combined for 38 assists.

Jenna Hensley of Alexander Central had 15 service points with Sarah Hollar providing five blocks and Merritt and Bella Prictchard posting a combined 18 digs.
