Foard reaches Western Foothills 3A final against unbeaten N. Iredell

Maiden High — sparked by Payton Miller’s 15 kills and 15 digs and 19 assists and 12 digs by Anna Lee Smith – defeated East Burke 3-0 on Tuesday night at West Lincoln to advance to the Catawba Valley 2A Athletic volleyball tournament title match.

The second-seeded Blue Devils (18-6) face top-seeded Bandys (17-6) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at West Lincoln.

Maiden and Bandys split their regular-season series, so the Wednesday match is also for the No. 1 state 2A playoff bid for the CVAC 2A.

The Blue Devils beat the third-seeded Cavs 25-11, 27-25 and 25-10 for their third win of the season over East Burke.

Fred T. Foard 3, East Lincoln 0

The second-seeded Tigers swept third-seed and visiting East Lincoln 25-22, 25-14, 25-21 in a second-round match Tuesday night in the Western Foothills 3A tournament.

Foard (18-6) travels to top-seed North Iredell (16-0) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for the conference tournament title match.

Laney Craig led the Tigers with 11 kills and seven digs with Maya Beatty adding nine kill, 12 digs and two aces. Also for Foard, Averie Dale provided 11 kills, five digs, three aces and three blocks and Natigan Crutchfield had 11 digs.

The Tigers finished second to North Iredell, three games back, in the regular-season.

The Raiders swept Foard in the regular season, winning 3-0 at home and 3-1 at Foard.
