Tigers play S. Rowan next, Patton faces Brevard, Watauga battles W. Rowan

There are eight teams left– four in each half of the state — in the girls’ volleyball playoffs, and they include three teams from the Greater Hickory area.
Top-seeded Fred T. Foard and No. 11 seed Patton, both from the Northwestern Foothills 2A, won third-round 2A matches on Thursday at home as did fourth-seeded Watauga from the Northwestern 3A-4A in 3A.
Foard downed visiting eighth-seeded R-S Central 25-12, 24-14, 25-14, advancing to play Saturday at home (time TBA) against No. 5 South Rowan (28-1), a 3-0 winner in China Grove over N0. 20 West Stokes.
Playing at home, Patton edged No. 14 Surry Central 25-9, 25-21, 25-12 to set up a road match on Saturday (time TBA) against No. 2 Brevard, which advanced with a 3-1 home victory over No. 7 Forbush.
Watauga (26-0) won 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 over No. 5 Cox Mill in Boone and will play unbeaten West Rowan (27-0, top seed) in Mount Ulla on Saturday (time TBA).
State semifinal matches are Tuesday at the highest seeds and the championship matches are next Saturday at Fayetteville State University with the 2A match at 7:30 p.m. and the 3A match at noon.
In 2A, the West final will be the Foard-South Rowan winner versus the Brevard-Patton winner. If Foard advances, it will be at home for that match.
In 3A, the West final will be the West Rowan-Watauga winner against the No. 3 Marvin Ridge-No. 2 West Henderson winner.
