CHAPEL HILL – The state high school basketball championship games are postponed indefinitely, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) announced on Thursday.

The decision is due to the threat from COVID-19, and the NCHSAA Board of Director also voted that no high school athletic events can be played after Friday night and until April 6.

“As much as we would like this opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and their communities, we know that ultimately any decision we make must err on the side of caution,” said NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker said in a press release.

The board of directors and NCHSAA staff will review the situation regularly over the next few weeks.

The decision includes all workouts, skill development, practices and games from Saturday through at least April 6.
