RALEIGH – Clinton High’s Dark Horses denied Newton-Conover a second straight state 2A boys’ soccer championship on Saturday, nipping the Red Devils 2-1 at N.C. State.
The Dark Horses finished 26-1-0 by winning in their first appearance in the state finals.
Newton-Conover, the South Fork 2A regular season champion, finished 22-4-1.
The Red Devils played for a state title for the fourth time in school history.
