EAST-WEST SOCCER: N-C’s Tapia, HHS’ Betancourt play for West on Tuesday night

Tuesday: Soccer at MacPherson Stadium, girls at 6:30 p.m., boys to follow
Wednesday: Football at Grimsley High’s Jamieson Stadium, 8 p.m.

GREENSBORO – The state’s top seniors from 2017-2018 battle on Tuesday night in the annual East-West high school soccer matches, and four of them are from the Greater Hickory area.

The girls’ match, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at MacPherson Stadium in Greensboro, includes Hibriten forward Allison Herrera on the West roster.

The boys’ match at about 8:30 p.m. includes forwards Franciso Tapia of Newton-Conover and Santiago Betancourt of Hickory and defender Jordan Hall from Lake Norman Charter.

The games are sponsored by the North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) as part of the organization’s annual East-West coaching clinic in Greensboro.
