HIGH SCHOOLS: Foard stays unbeaten in Northwestern Foothills 2A volleyball

Fred T. Foard High’s girls topped Bunker Hill on the road on Monday night to stay unbeaten in Northwestern Foothills 2A volleyball.

The Tigers, 7-0 in the league and tied with West Iredell for first place, won 25-21, 25-18, 25-18.

Sarah Houston led Bunker Hill, 4-4 in the conference and in fourth place, with 13 kills and Allison Fair added 13 assists.

Foard is at home Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to face Hibriten, 0-7 in the league, and has a makeup match at home Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against West Iredell.

Bunker Hill travels to Draughn for a conference match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

St. Stephens 3, Alexander Central 0

The Indians swept the Cougars in Hickory, winning 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 to improve to 5-4 in the Northwestern 3A-4A and get within a match of third-place Alexander Central.

Ally Day had 13 service points, including an ace, and Rylee Baker provide two aces to spark St. Stephens, 7-9 overall.

Day also had 18 digs while Neila King provided nine kills and 16 digs and Carter Leatherman contributed eight kills for the Indians.

Alexander Central, 6-3 in the league, is at home Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face second-place Hickory (8-1).

St. Stephens goes to South Caldwell on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a conference match.

BOYS SOCCER

Bandys 5, West Lincoln 0

Macauley Bulen scored three goals and Ben Joseph added two as the Trojans beat the Rebels on the road to hold third place in the South Fork 2A.

Seaver Hubbard had two assists, Jason Jimeniz had one and Jesse Pope was in goal for a shutout for Bandys, 3-2-0 in the conference after its second league shutout of the season.

The Trojans are two back of first-place East Lincoln (5-0) as they entertain Lake Norman Charter in a league match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

West Lincoln, 0-5-0 in the South Fork 2A and in last place, plays league-leading East Lincoln at West Lincoln at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

East Lincoln 8, Maiden 1

Led by Chase Gilley’s two goals and three assists, the Mustangs remained atop the South Fork 2A with a home win.

Logan Gilley added two goals and an assist for East Lincoln, 5-0-0 in the league, and Tyler Swanson, Noah Graden, Ty Knight and Alec Perrin each added one goal.

Miller Towson, Pearson Cunningham and Brandon Spann each had an assist for East Lincoln, 12-1 overall.

East Lincoln faces West Lincoln on the road Wednesday at 5 p.m. while Maiden, 1-4-0 and in seventh place, travels to Newton-Conover for a conference match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS GOLF

Titans win Northwestern 3A-4 match

McDowell shot a 146, edging Freedom by strokes at Orchard Hills Golf Club in the third Northwestern 3A-4A match of the season.

Anna McDonald of Hickory — with a 35 — had the best score of a nine-hole match as she won medalist for the third time this year.

Hickory shot 159, followed by Alexander Central, South Caldell, Watauga and St. Stephens.

Team scores: 1. McDowell 146; 2. Freedom 148; 3. Hickory 159; 4. Alexander Central 166; 5. S. Caldwell 168; 6. Watauga 186; 7. St. Stephens 207.

Medalist: Anna McDonald (H) 35.
