HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: St. Stephens edges Bandys in volleyball

Led by Kenley Killian’s 23 assists, St. Stephens High won a non-conference volleyball match on Wednesday at Bandys, topping the Trojans 3-1.

The Indians won the first two games 25-13 and 25-12 before the Trojans won 25-23 to force a fourth game that St. Stephens won 25-20 to improve to 2-2.

Neila King, Rachel Merrill and Carter Leatherman each had 10 kills for St. Stephens. Ally Day added 16 digs and Grace Brennan had four aces for the Indians.

St. Stephens has another non-league road match on Thursday, going to Draughn for a 6 p.m. start, and the Indians open their Northwestern 3A-4A schedule on Monday at home against Watauga (6 p.m.).

Bandys (1-3) plays a home match on Thursday, facing South Caldwell at 6 p.m.

Maiden 3, Draughn 0

At Draughn, the Blue Devils won 25-19, 25-13 and 25-11 behind 14 kills by Abbey Smith.

Nicole Hutchinson added eight kills, Sarah Wicker provided three blocks and six kills and Peyton McRee had six aces for Maiden (2-2).

Lauren Xayavong had 15 digs and four aces for the Blue Devils while Faith Herman had 34 assists and 10 digs and Abby Driscoll provided five kills.

Maiden plays a non-league match on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Charter.

Lake Norman Charter 3, Pine Lake Prep 0

The Knights (3-0) won a non-league match at home 25-18, 26-24 and 25-13.

Lauren Leeper led Lake Norman Charter with six aces, 18 assists and seven digs, and Liberty Harris contributed nine kills and seven digs.

The Knights also got eight kills and eight digs from Makalya Martin, five kills and four blocks by Pearce Augier and Corey Seidenspinner finished with five kills, 10 digs and one ace.

Lake Norman Charter meets Christ The King on the road on Thursday at 6 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

East Lincoln 9, West Iredell 1

The Mustangs (4-0) remained unbeaten after Logan Gilley scored four goals and Miller Towson added two in a road win over the Warriors.

Chase Gilley, Chase Lynch and Alec Perrin each added one goal for East Lincoln.

Chase Gilley had four assists and Logan Gilley, Tyler Swanson, Lynch, Noah Graden and Brandon Spann each provided an assist for the Mustangs.

East Lincoln has a non-league match at home Monday at 6 p.m. against Comenius while West Iredell plays a non-conference match on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at West Rowan.

JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL

Schedule changes

These schedule changes have been announced in junior varsity football:

  • Newton-Conover will not play at Hibriten on Sept. 13 and the Panthers have picked up a road game for that date against Ashe County.
  • Hibriten will play McDowell in Marion on Thursday instead of facing West Caldwell.

CROSS COUNTRY

Watauga dominates league meet

Watauga dominated the first Northwestern 3A-4A cross country meet of the season on Wednesday at Southside Park in Newton.
