HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Maiden nips Knights in double OT in soccer

Maiden High scored three second-half goals but needed two overtimes to down visiting Lake Norman Charter 4-3 in South Fork 2A boys’ soccer on Monday night.

Jordan Hall had two goals for Lake Norman Charter and Joe Wessler had two assists in the loss for the Knights.

Maiden has a league match on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Lincolnton and Lake Norman Charter plays on Tuesday, also at 6 p.m., at West Lincoln.

East Lincoln 2, North Lincoln 0

The Mustangs got goals by Pearson Cunningham and Peyton Stone and Ryan Costner was in goal for a shutout in a South Fork 2A match played at North Lincoln.

The Mustangs face Newton-Conover on the road Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a league match, while the Knights travel to Bandys for a South Fork 2A match at 6 p.m.

St. Stephens 2, West Caldwell 2, 2 OTs

The Indians and Warriors played to a tie in a Northwestern 3A-4A match in Lenoir.

Freddy Guardiola and Jorge Euceda each had a goal for West Caldwell and Zachary Mclean made nine saves in goal.

St. Stephens meets archrival Hickory at St. Stephens on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a league battle.

West Caldwell travels to Watauga for a Tuesday 6 p.m. conference match.

Alexander Central 5, Freedom 3

At the Catawba River Soccer Complex, the Cougars broke away from a 2-all halftime tie to win a Northwestern 3A-4A match.

The Cougars and Patriots both play on Tuesday at 6 p.m., with Alexander Central going to South Caldwell and Freedom facing McDowell in Marion.

Watauga 3, Hickory 1

The Pioneers led 2-0 at the half en route to a Northwestern 3A-4A victory over the visiting Red Tornadoes.

On Tuesday night, Watauga is at home to face West Caldwell at 6 p.m. and Hickory goes to archrival St. Stephens for a 6 p.m. match. Both are conference battles.

Draughn 4, East Burke 1

Visiting Draughn had three second-half goals to beat the Cavs in a Northwestern Foothills 2A match in Icard.

The Wildcats are on the road Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for a league match at West Iredell.

East Burke’s next match is Monday, a conference battle with West Iredell, at East Burke at 6:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

Bunker Hill 3, Bandys 2

The visiting Bears rallied after Bandys won 25-22, 26-24 and won three straight sets to take a non-conference match.

Bunker Hill won 25-23, 25-21, 15-8 to win.

The Bears have a Northwestern Foothills 2A match on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at home, facing Hibriten.

The Trojans are at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against North Lincoln.

East Burke 3, Draughn 2

The Cavs won at home in a Northwestern Foothills 2A match, 25-13, 17-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-11.

East Burke’s next match is a conference battle with West Iredell in Icard at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Draughn goes to West Iredell for a league match on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

West Iredell 3, Fred T. Foard 1

The Warriors won 25-16 and 25-13, 25-7 after the visiting Tigers had won the second set 25-19 in a Northwestern Foothills 2A match.

West Iredell is at home Wednesday at 6 p.m., playing Draughn in a league match, and Foard travels to Patton on the same day for a 6 p.m. start.
