Michael Mahoney scored three goals on Wednesday night, leading St. Stephens High to a 5-2 home boys’ soccer victory in a Northwestern 3A-4A match.
The Indians scored all of their goals in the second half with Luis Ugalde, Cesar Orozco adding to Mahoney’s scoring and Armando Aguilara delivering three assists.
St. Stephens improved to 5-2-1 in league play heading into a 6:30 p.m. conference match on Monday at McDowell.
Freedom, 1-7-0 in the league, plays league-leading Hickory on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Catawba River Soccer Complex.
Newton-Conover 6, Lincolnton 1
The Red Devils scored four first-half goals en route to a South Fork 2A road win that kept them in them in first place.
Newton-Conover is 15-0-1 overall and 8-0-0 in the league and plays a non-conference match against Statesville on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Newton.
Lincolnton, 8-7-0 overall and 3-5-0 in the league, will be at home on Monday at 6:30 p.m. to face East Lincoln.
West Iredell 4, Bunker Hill 1
The Warriors won in Claremont by scoring two goals in each half of a Northwestern Foothills 2A match.
West Iredell, 5-3-0 in the league, plays Hibriten at home on Monday at 6:30 p.m in a conference match.
Bunker Hill, 0-8-0 in the conference, meets Patton on the road on Monday at 6:30 p.m. in a league match.

The visiting Warriors won 25-12, 25-17, 25-12 in Claremont to inch closer to closing out a Northwestern Foothills 2A title.
West Iredell came in one game up on Fred T. Foard.
The Warriors are 11-0 and playing a 12-game conference schedule so they can do no worse than tie for the league title.
On Monday, West Iredell plays Hibriten at 6:30 p.m. at West Iredell.
Bunker Hill is at Patton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in a conference match.
