RALEIGH – Hibriten High defensive back Miles Simon is on the North Carolina Associated Press’ All-State football team.
Simon — a 6-foot-1, 191-pound senior who had 62 tackles and 10 interceptions — sparked the Panthers’ defense as they went unbeaten and won the state 2AA football championship. He also played for North Carolina in its Shrine Bowl victory over South Carolina.
Simon was the only player selected all-state from the South Fork 2A, Northwestern Foothills 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A.
Harding, the state 4A champion, led the selections by sportswriters who covered high school football across the state with two on offense, one on defense and head coach Sam Greiner was named coach of the year.
The Offensive Player of the Year is Greenville Conley quarterback Holton Ahlers, while the top defensive award went to Shelby linebacker Dax Hollifield.
