HUNTERSVILLE – The red-hot Red Devils rolled again on Friday night.
Newton-Conover High score 60 first-half points at Lake Norman Charter and burned the Knights 63-7 in South Fork 2A football to remain tied for first place with East Lincoln and Maiden.
Newton-Conover quarterback Shamar Baker, who had accounted for 10 scores in the previous two games, had a hand in four against Lake Norman Charter. He threw for three TDs and ran for another.
Adding three rushing TDs was running back Tylor Stinson, who broke a run 75 yards for a score on Newton-Conover’s first play to set the tone. He came into the game with (unofficially) 865 yards rushing, averaging 9.6 yard per carry.
Francisco Tapia added a 41-yard field goal for the Red Devils, his first of the season.
High-scoring Newton-Conover (7-1, 4-0) has scored 176 of its league-leading 368 points in the last three games, Friday’s outburst coming on the heels of beating Bandys 55-7 and West Lincoln 58-8.
The only score for Lake Norman Charter (3-5, 0-4), which played the Red Devils for the first time in varsity football, was a TD pass by quarterback Jackson Newton.
Lake Norman Charter has lost three straight games, all in the league, by a combined score of 146-21.
The Red Devils got for head coach Matt Beam’s 108th career win next Friday when they face North Lincoln at home (7:30 p.m.) in a game that will feature Beam coaching against his former assistant, Steven Pack.
Lake Norman Charter travels for a league game next Friday at 7:30 p.m., going to Lincolnton.
