HICKORY –Friday night’s Newton-Conover at Hickory varsity football game has been postponed.

Newton-Conover athletic director John Echerd made the announcement on his twitter account about 10:50 a.m. on Friday, saying the game will be played Monday night at 6 p.m.

Several games scheduled were moved up to Wednesday or played on Thursday night because of a forecast for heavy rains.

The Red Devils (1-0) and Red Tornadoes (0-1) will meet for the 75th time in a series that began in 1923 and that HHS leads 47-25-2.

Newton-Conover has won three straight games over Hickory and seven of their previous nine meetings.

The postponement means the Red Devils and Red Tornadoes will each play twice next week, with Newton-Conover facing East Burke in Icard next Friday night and HHS playing Hunter Huss in Gastonia next Friday night.
