Winning for the 15th time in 19 games under head coach Will Byrne, the Blue Devils had nearly 400 yards of offense and held the Knights (3-4, 0-3) to fewer than 160 yards.

Mayfield ran for two scores and twice hit Caleb McDaniel on TD passes in a game that Maiden led 50-7 by halftime. He also threw a TD pass to Logan Hentschel to open the Blue Devils’ scoring.

Maiden has outscored opponents 282-90 this season.

Running back Kentrell Williams added a 43-yard TD run and gained nearly 100 yards on his eight carries and Lee Turner added two scoring runs among his 10 carries as Maiden rolled.

Maiden played so well offensively that it did not punt and easily overcame losing two fumbles.

The Blue Devils led 28-0 when Lake Norman Charter scored on a 2-yard run by quarterback Jackson Newton in the second quarter.

The Knights’ other score, a 4-yard run by Tyler Stankiewicz in the final five seconds, closed the scoring.

Lake Norman Charter is at home next Friday night, facing Newton-Conover for the first time. That conference game begins at 7:30 p.m. in Huntersville.
