WEST IREDELL 20

Closing head coach Derrick Minor’s second regular season with a 42-20 home victory on Friday night over West Iredell, the Tigers (8-4, 4-2) finished third in the Northwestern Foothills 2A behind Hibriten and Patton.

Foard evened Minor’s record as head coach there at 11-11 behind running back Tate Beaver running for nearly 190 yards and scoring once and quarterback Jack Colosimo rushing for three scores.

The Tigers led 21-20 at the half over the Warriors (5-6, 3-3, fourth place) and then did the rest of the game’s scoring.

Colosimo had TD runs of 2, 1 and 28 yards. His second score came in the third quarter and helped Foard go up 28-20.

An interception return for a TD by Gavin Shoemaker had the Tigers in front 35-20 heading into the final quarter.

Foard had more than 400 yards of total offense and survived a big game by West Iredell quarterback Dillan Davis, who threw for more than 180 yards and for TDs to Bernard Briley (two) and Keenan Bunch.

There were nine fumbles in the game but only one lost (by West Iredell).

Foard ran more than 60 plays en route to reaching eight wins for the first time since its 2008 team went 9-3.

The Tigers also reached eight or more wins in 1981, 1982 and 1983 under Dick Foster (see graphic).
