HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Castle, Watauga cruise, stay undefeated at 5-0

BOONE – Quarterback Anderson Castle threw for three scores and ran for another on Friday night as Watauga High remained unbeaten by rolling past visiting South Caldwell 48-7.

The win came in the first Northwestern 3A-4A game of the season for both teams, with the Pioneers improving to 5-0 overall and the Spartans falling to 0-5.

Castle threw TD passes of 61, 23 and 26 yards and rushed 41 yards for a TD for Watauga, which opened a 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter and led 34-0 at halftime.

Watauga scored 48 unanswered points before the Spartans got a late TD.

Ben Critcher, who ran for two TDs for the Pioneers, opened the scoring with a 13-yard TD run in the first quarter. Jackson Greene added a 14-yard scoring run to extend Watauga’s lead.

In the second quarter, Isaac Satterfield caught a 61-yard throw from Castle for a TD, Critcher scored on a 2-yard run and Joey Watson’s 23-yard TD reception from Castle made it 34-0 at the half.

Grant Oliver caught a 26-yard TD pass from Castle and Castle’s scoring run pushed the lead to 48-0.

Watauga has outscored its opponents 235-96 this season.

The Pioneers have a key league game next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Taylorsville, facing unbeaten Alexander Central.

South Caldwell, playing its first season under head coach Marc Kirkpatrick, is at home next Friday for a conference game against county rival West Caldwell (7:30 p.m.).
