MORGANTON – Running back William Brawley broke two runs for more than 60 yards and touchdowns on Thursday night at Patton High hammered visiting McDowell 42-7 in varsity football.
Brawley scored three times — on runs of 5, 64 and 65 yards — as Patton (2-1) beat the Titans (1-2) in the first football game between the schools.
Quarterback Ty Causby added two rushing TDs, his last coming with a bit more than four minutes to play on a 6-yard run, that pushed the Panthers’ lead to 35 points.
Patton jumped to a 21-0 lead when Brawley scored after a fake punt by the Titans.
Brawley cleared 3,000 rushing yards for his career in the victory.
Panthers head coach Tom Eanes is approaching 150 career wins; he’s nine shy in his 29th season as a head coach.
Patton, which lost starting quarterback Joe Eakin to an injury in the opening game of the season against Hunter Huss, will be at home next Friday for a non-conference game with Freedom.
McDowell plays its second home game of the year next Friday with a visit from Mitchell County.
