STATE 2AA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Shelby at Hibriten, 7:30 p.m.

HobbsDailyReport.com

Two good reads from The Shelby Star’s excellent coverage leading up to Friday night’s 7:30 p.m. state 2AA football semifinal, eighth-seeded Shelby (12-2) at No. 2 seed Hibriten (14-0).

Shelby has won four straight state titles and needs a win in Lenoir to play for a state title for the fifth consecutive season.

Hibriten, which dropped a classification in statewide realignment, reached last year’s state 3A semifinals before falling to South Point.

Friday night’s winner meets No. 2 North Davidson (13-1) or No. 1 East Duplin (14-0), who play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at East Duplin, in the state 2AA final on Dec. 9 at North Carolina (time to be announced).

You’ll enjoy following coverage of high school football in the Shelby paper, led by Sports Editor Alan Ford, because of its vast experience … as Cleveland County football is a hotbed for the sport with multiple schools reaching (and winning) state championship games.
