LINCOLNTON – Kris Robinson, a 6-foot-3 guard who was the South Fork 2A’s Player of the Year last season in boys’ basketball, won’t returned to Lincolnton High for his senior year.
Robinson — in a story reported by The Lincoln Times-News — will enroll at Combine Academy in Lincoln County and played there for Jeff McInnis, his Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) head coach.
McInnis, a former star guard in high school at West Charlotte and Oak Hill (Va.) Academy who went on to play at North Carolina and in the NBA (13 seasons), was recently named head coach at Combine Academy.
Robinson will reclassify and enter Combine Academy as a junior.
Combine Academy is an independent school and not a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA), which means – as a college prep school – it can play a national schedule.
Lincolnton went 10-14 last season overall and 6-8 in the South Fork 2A, finishing in fifth place.
Robinson had high games of 52 and 57 points last season.
