Notes: Watauga won the boards by seven, led by eight from Byrd, and Nikki Hagy had 12 for Alexander Central (10 defensive) … The Cougars had 39 turnovers and the Pioneers had 29 … Haas had eight steals and Rebekah Farthing had six for Watauga, which had 25 … Gracie Harrington made six of Alexander Central’s 11 steals … The Pioneers went 9 of 19 on free throws and the Cougars went 1 of 6 … Watauga shot 37.7 percent, including 28 percent in the second half, and Alexander Central shot 29.3 percent … The Pioneers outscored the Cougars 30-13 via turnovers and 18-4 on fast breaks… Sturgill hit seven of her nine field goal attempts for Watauga… The Pioneers beat the Cougars 63-23 in Boone on Jan. 4 … Watauga has won three straight games and five of its last seven and has a half-game lead for second place over McDowell.
