Notes: Pioneers head coach Rob Sanders picks up career win No. 200 … Watauga trailed 20-3 very early in the second quarter …Watauga faces top-seeded Freedom in a semifinal on Thursday at Hickory in a game that starts after a 4 p.m. girls’ semifinal finishes … McPherson hit three 3-pointers and Matthew Walker made two for the Indians … Castle, West and Jake Sears each hit two 3-pointers for Watauga … Walker led the Indians’ rebounding with seven and West had seven to pace the Pioneers … St. Stephens has 12 turnovers and Watauga had nine …Watauga also beat St. Stephens 51-45 in Hickory and 79-53 in Boone during the regular season… The Indians finish with five losses in six games … The Pioneers have won two straight games six times this season but never a third straight … St. Stephens finishes with its fifth straight losing season after going .500 six years ago… Watauga is 42-53 since 2015-2016.

Notes: Watauga meets top-seeded Freedom in a semifinal at 4 p.m. Thursday at Hickory … South Caldwell posted one fewer win than a season ago and experienced its first back-to-back losing seasons since 1994-95/1995-96 … Watauga is 38-13 over the past two seasons and has won 57 of 80 games in three seasons with Laura Berry as head coach … The Pioneers beat the Spartans 33-32 in Hudson and 38-27 in the regular season at Boone … South Caldwell’s Jeff Parham, who missed the first four games while recovering from heart surgery, has a record of 367-194 after 21 seasons as head coach at South Caldwell … Sixteen of Parham’s teams have earned state playoff bids.
