HOLIDAY BASKETBALL: Bandys girls, boys have first-round byes at People’s Bank Holiday Classic

Three-day tournaments open Dec. 27 at North Lincoln

LINCOLNTON – Both Bandys High basketball teams are top-seeded and will have opening-round byes in the People’s Bank Holiday Classic scheduled Thursday through Dec. 29 at North Lincoln High.

The Bandys girls, 4-1 through Dec. 20, will play a semifinal on Dec. 28 against North Lincoln or East Gaston at 5 p.m.

The Bandys boys, 4-1 through Dec. 20, play a semifinal on Dec. 28, also against North Lincoln or East Gaston, at 6:30 p.m.

The three-day tournament begins on Thursday with the first of six games that day, Highland Tech’s girls against West Lincoln, with an 11 a.m. start.

The tournaments will play through Dec. 29, a Saturday, with the girls’ title game at 5 p.m. and the boys’ championship game at 6:30 p.m.

Last year’s girls’ tournament champion, North Gaston, is not in this year’s field. The Wildcats nipped Lincolnton 37-36 in last season’s title game at West Lincoln.

Lincolnton is the defending boys’ champion, beating East Gaston 67-52 in last year’s tournament final.
