RALEIGH – HighSchoolOT.com is reporting state high school basketball championship games are still scheduled to be played this weekend.

In a Wednesday story (https://www.highschoolot.com/nchsaa-basketball-championships-still-on-but-unsure-if-changes-will-need-to-be-made/19007052/), it included an update from North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) Commissioner Que Tucker.

State title games are scheduled Saturday at the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill and N.C. State’s Reynolds Coliseum, with four games at each site.

Tucker, addressing changes made by college basketball tournaments related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), said:

“At this moment, we have not spoken with our contacts at UNC and NCSU. Thus, we do not know if we have to cancel the games or if we can play — with a limited number of spectators or without spectators.

“Once we get the official word, we will communicate that information to our schools first and then to the media and general public.”

Changes at the college level include the NCAA Tournament being played without fans in venues and some conference tournaments being played with limited access. The Ivy League cancelled its conference tournament.

The UNC System, which includes UNC and N.C. State, announced Wednesday it is moving most classes to online and extending spring break to March 22.
