The high school basketball season opens Tuesday night with two girls’ programs already postponing games because of having to quarantine because of COVID-19.
In the South Fork 2A, Lincolnton’s girls are under quarantine and playing no games through Jan. 12 while the Northwestern Foothills 2A’s West Caldwell won’t play before Jan. 14.
Lincolnton won’t play any girls games on Tuesday at Newton-Conover but there will be junior varsity (6 p.m.) and varsity boys’ games played in Newton.
The Wolves have also postponed girls’ games on Friday at home against East Lincoln with boys’ games on as scheduled (6 p.m. JV start).
West Caldwell is dealing with COVID in both its volleyball and girls’ basketball programs.
The Warriors won’t play Wednesday at Fred T. Foard or Friday at home against Patton. Boys’ games at those two sites will be played (JVs at 5 p.m. at Foard; game start times against Patton to be determined).
The South Fork 2A schedule is highlighted by the return to coaching of Rob Bliss. He will lead Bandys against Maiden at Maiden, where he was formerly principal (also principal at South Caldwell, and a star athlete and later head boys’ coach at East Burke and later at Fred T. Foard).
The South Fork 2A, Northwestern Foothills 2A and Northwestern 3A-4A have released their protocols, admission costs and other instructions for fans hoping to attend games.
