HICKORY
BOYS NO. 1 SEED

Pairings for the three-day tournament, scheduled Dec. 27-29 at Catawba Valley Community College’s Tarlton Complex, were revealed in a press release by The Hickory Metro Sports Commission on Monday.

Hickory’s boys, off to a 4-0 start, are defending tournament champs after beating Maiden 56-45 in last season’s title game. The Red Tornadoes were a No. 2 seed last season, and the Blue Devils were the top seed.

Maiden’s girls, with a 3-0 start, finished fourth in last season’s tournament as a No. 3 seed.

Hickory’s girls, 1-3 through Monday and seeded No. 7, are the defending tournament champions after beating No. 2 South Caldwell 40-32 in last year’s championship.

The Hickory boys have won the tournament 19 times — going 73-14 in the Classic – and the Maiden girls have never won a Classic title, going 14-54.
