HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Players from E. Lincoln, W. Lincoln, Alex Central make all-state

Three players from the Greater Hickory area’s three conferences have been named all-state in baseball by the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (NCBCA).

Freshman Garrett Michel of East Lincoln and junior Chris Moxley of West Lincoln earned spots on the 2A team, while senior Byron Younts of Alexander Central was selected to the team in 3A.

Michel, a third baseman, hit .467 in 24 games last season for East Lincoln (11-13) with 17 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 19 RBIs.

Moxley went 4-0 with an ERA of 1.65, striking out 41 in 34 innings pitched last season as West Lincoln (22-9) reached the West 2A title series against North Lincoln. Opponents hit .224 against Moxley.

Younts played third base for Alexander Central (22-9), playing in 30 games. He hit .376 with 68 hits, drove in 37 runs, scored 48 runs and finished with seven doubles, one triple and two home runs.
