Hayden Deal will make his eighth start of the season for the Mississippi Braves on Saturday against Birmingham (Ala.).
The Braves have posted Deal as their probable starter for a 7:05 p.m. home Double-A game.
Deal is 1-2 with an ERA of 3.64 in seven starts for Mississippi, striking out 27 in 29 2/3 innings.
His last appearance came Sunday in a star at Biloxi (Miss.), and the Braves won 11-3 in seven innings but Deal did not gain a decision.
Deal pitched three innings on Sunday, allowing no hits, one unearned run, and he walked three and struck out two. He threw strikes on 37 of his 65 pitches and faced 14 batters.
A lanky left-hander who starred first at Bandys High and then in college at Presbyterian (S.C.), Deal is in his fourth on-the-field pro season.
He has now pitched 258 1/3 pro innings and has a career ERA of 2.96.
Deal is averaging 8.19 strikeouts per nine innings.
Mississippi is 21-17 and in second place in the Double-A South standings, 1 1/2 games back of Pensacola (Fla.).
Deal’s ninth start of the year will depend on whether the Braves use a five or six-man rotation.
