MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Deal still on Mississippi’s disabled list

PEARL, Miss. — Former Bandys High pitching star Hayden Deal — placed on a 7-day disabled list on Aug. 4 — , has has not been reactivated by the Mississippi Braves

The team has not posted the specifics on the injury as of Tuesday or any other additional news regarding Deal’s current status.

Deal has pitched in 24 games this season and has a 3-2 record with an ERA of 3.62.

He is 23-17 in minor league baseball with an ERA of 3.19 and 325 strikeouts in 366 2/3 innings.

Deal was a starting pitcher in college at Presbyterian and signed by the Atlanta Braves to a free agent contract after being invited to throw pitches for an Atlanta scout at the Bandys field.

The Braves’ game on Tuesday at home against Pensacola (Fla.) was rained out and set for 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday as part of a doubleheader.

Mississippi is 49-59 overall and 20-19 in the second half standings of the Southern League South, tied for fourth place with Pensacola in the second half standings. Those teams are a half-game behind Biloxi (Miss.) and four games behind Montgomery (Ala.) in the title chase.

Pensacola (55-48) won the South Division first-half race.
