DEAL
Hayden Deal pitched Sunday and is closing in on 300 career strikeouts. He got two over 2 2/3 innings in an 11-7 victory at Montgomery (Ala.) and is two shy of 300.
Deal, a former left-handed starter at Bandys High who then played college baseball at Presbyterian (S.C.), is a reliever for the Double-A Mississippi Braves.

He gave up two hits and no runs on Sunday, threw a wild pitch and hit one batter with 28 strikes on 47 pitches and facing 11 batters before a crowd of 3,620.
Deal’s appearance was his 94th of his pro career — he has made 44 starts — and he has an ERA of 1.06 in seven appearances this season (17 innings pitched, 18 strikeouts).
As a pro, he is at 298 strikeouts in 334 innings and has 20-15 record with five career saves. This season, he has walked seven and struck out 18.
Mississippi is 8-13 overall and Montgomery is 9-11.
The Braves are off on Monday and then begin a Southern League South series at home against Pensacola (Fla.) that will last through Sunday.
Mississippi i in fourth place in the division, one game back of Penscola, 1 1/2 games back of second-place Montgomery and four games behind division-leading Bilox (Miss.).
