After making a start on Monday in his 100th pro game, Hayden Deal pitched two innings in relief on Thursday in the Mississippi Braves’ 7-3 home loss against Montgomery (Ala.).
It was the 14th appearance of the season for Deal, a former star at at Bandys High who through Saturday night is 1-0 with an ERA of 2.79 with 29 strikeouts in 31 innings.
The Braves finish their series with Montgomery on Sunday. After an off day on Monday, they go to Rocket City for a six-game series that starts Tuesday night.
Deal came in Thursday and pitched the seventh and eighth innings, allow no hit and no runs. He threw strikes on 23 of his 41 pitches, facing nine batters, with three walks and three strikeouts.
He is 21-15 in his career with a 3.10 ERA with 311 strikeouts in 346 innings.
Mississippi (24-26) shares second place in the Southern League’s South Division with Bilox (Miss.) and both are two games back on division leader Pensacola (Fla.),
