MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Deal hit hard in relief in Mississippi’s loss

DEAL

Hayden Deal threw strikes on Sunday — 17 times in 20 pitches — but Biloxi (Miss.) hit him hard in an 11-3 victory at Mississippi.

Making his third appearance in relief, Deal went 1 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, four runs (all earned) with no walks or strikeouts.

He is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.94 with 65 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. His first 15 appearances this season were starts.

While missing on only three pitches, Deal faced nine batters. He hit one.

Mississippi is 53-37 and leads the Double-A South’s South Division over Montgomery (Ala.) by 2 1/2 games.

The Braves have Monday off before starting a six-game series at Montgomery.
