Left-hander Hayden Deal suffered his second loss of the season on Thursday night after pitching 4 2/3 innings for the Double-A Mississippi Braves.
Visiting Chattanooga beat the Braves 3-1 in 81-degree weather, a game that lasted a minute shy of two hours.
Deal, a former high school star at Bandys and in college at Presbyterian (S.C.), made gave up four hits and three runs, all earned. He walked three and struck out five, throwing strikes on 48 of his 81 pitches.
He was making his third start of the season.
The series continues Friday night at Mississippi.
The Braves are 6-9 and tied with Bioloxi (Miss.) in the standings, two games back of Pensacola (Fla.)
When Deal makes his fourth start will depend on if the Braves use a five- or six-man rotation.
