Hayden Deal worked 3 1/3 innings on Tuesday night in Biloxi (Miss.), where the Mississippi Braves fell 6-4 in a Southern League game.
Deal, a former Bandys High star, made his second relief appearance of the season. He was the first reliever in for the Braves, giving up two hits, an unearned run, walking none and striking out five.
The series continues Wednesday in Biloxi with a 6:45 p.m. game.
The Braves fell to 1-3 and they are tied with Pensacola (Fla.) for third place in the Southern League South standings, three games back of Biloxi (4-0).
Deal faced 13 batters and threw strikes on 33 of his 49 pitches before a crowd of 2,220.
He is 0-0 this season with six innings pitched, two hits allowed, three walks and nine strikeouts. Batters are hitting .100 against him so far.
This is Deal’s fifth pro season (there was no minor league baseball in 2020) due to COVID.
Deal now has 89 career appearances — 44 of them starts — and he’s 20-15 as a pro with an ERA of 3.10 with five saves and 323 innings pitched with 289 strikeouts.
