MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Deal goes 3 1/3 innings in Braves’ 1-run victory

Former Bandys High hurler Hayden Deal worked 3 1/3 innings on Friday night, allowing just one hit in a Double A game the Mississippi Braves eventually won 6-5 at home over Birmingham (Ala.).

Deal, a left-hander, came on in the fifth inning and faced 12 batters before he left. He allowed one run (earned), walked two and had no strikeouts.

He is  2-1 in 17 appearances this season with an ERA of 2.87 in 37 2/3 innings with 17 walks and 35 strikeouts.

Mississippi improved to 27-34 in the Southern League and continues the series Saturday and Sunday against Birmingham.

Deal threw strikes on 23 of his 37 pitches before a crowd of 2,363.

He is 22-16 after 104 games as a pro, all with the Atlanta organization, with 108 walks and 315 strikeouts in 354 2/3 innings.
