Hayden Deal pitched 2 1/3 innings on Wednesday night for the Mississippi Braves in a 4-3 home loss to Chattanooga (Tenn).
Deal was the second pitcher used by Mississippi, allowing two hits, two runs (both earned), walking one and striking out one.
The Braves fell to 3-8 and Chattanooga improved to 6-5, with another game in the series on Thursday at 6:35 p.m., and games on Friday through Sunday.
Mississippi is in last place in the Southern League South five games back of first-place Biloxi (Miss.).
Deal, a left-hander signed by the Braves after a workout at Bandys High (his alma mater) is being used as a reliever this year. In four games, he has thrown 10 1/3 innings, giving up four hits, three runs (two earned) and striking out 12.
Opponents are hitting .121 against Deal, who on Wednesday threw strikes on 26 of his 42 pitches. He faced 10 batters before a crowd of 5,205.
Deal has now pitched in 91 pro games (he has 20 wins), and he has walked 96 and struck out 292.
