PEARL, Ms. — Hayden Deal had a tough outing on Thursday night for the Mississippi Braves.

Visiting Tennessee downed the Braves 7-1, and Deal pitched one inning in relief, giving up three hits, three runs (all earned) with no walks or strikeouts.

Deal threw strikes on 12 of 20 pitches and faced six batters before a crowd of 1,831.

He is 3-2 this season and his ERA rose to 4.10. In 27 games, he has pitched 52 2/3 innings this season with 48 strikeouts.

As a pro, Deal is 23-17 in 114 games with an ERA of 3.26 with 328 strikeouts in 369 2/3 innings.

He is an undrafted player out of Bandys High, signed to a contract by the Braves the same day he threw pitches at his alma mater’s field for an Atlanta scout.

The series continues Friday at Mississippi.

The Braves are 56-66 overall and 27-26 in the second half of the Southern League South Division standings. They share second place with Pensacola (Fla.), 5 1/2 games behind Montgomery (Ala.).
