PEARL, Miss. — The Mississippi Braves have placed former Bandys High star Hayden Deal on the disabled list.
Deal, a left-handed reliever, was put on a 7-day injury list on Thursday with no details on the nature of the injury announced.
He has pitched in 24 games this season and has a 3-2 record with an ERA of 3.62.
Deal is now 23-17 in minor league baseball with an ERA of 3.19 and 325 strikeouts in 366 2/3 innings.
He was a starting pitcher in college at Presbyterian and signed by the Braves to a free agent contract after being invited to throw pitches for an Atlanta scout at the Bandys field.
The Braves (18-13 second half, 47-53 overall in Southern League South) continued a series at Biloxi, (Miss.) on Friday — falling 7-2 — and they have games there through Sunday. After an off day on Monday, the Braves start a six-game series at Chattanooga (Tenn.) on Tuesday.
If Deal misses only seven days, he would return on Thursday in Chattanooga.
