Hayden Deal pitched four innings on Wednesday night but was not around to factor in the decision as visiting Montgomery (Ala.) beat the Mississippi Braves 3-0.
Deal, a left-hander who starred at Bandys High and then Presbyterian (S.C.) College before signing a minor league deal with the Atlanta Braves, gave up two hits, walked one, hit two batters and struck out five.
He threw strikes on 51 of his 78 pitches and faced 17 batters in a game played in 83 degree weather before 1,433 fans.
Montgomery improved to 8-11 by winning and the Braves are 8-12.
The series continues at Mississippi on Thursday night.
Deal will be making his fifth start of the season in his next outing. When that will be will be determined on whether the Braves use five or six-man rotation.
