BEAVER’S BIG NIGHT
A look at the defensive plays made Wednesday night by linebacker Tate Beaver of Fred T. Foard High, named the defensive star of the game in the annual East-West All-Star game in Greensboro. He had seven tackles (four for 17 lost yards), a sack for minus-6 yards and one assist:

GREENSBORO – Lenoir-Rhyne University signees Gunnar Anderson and Tate Beaver came up big on Wednesday night, making significant plays that helped the West net a 23-21 victory over the East in the annual East-West All-Star football game.
Playing their final high school game before 5,207 at Greensboro Grimsley High’s Jamieson Stadium, they led the West with off-the-bench performances as it rallied from a 7-3 halftime deficit to win.

Anderson, a quarterback from Alexander Central High, threw the eventual game-winning touchdown pass to Tykel Landrum of Hendersonville with six minutes, 29 seconds to play. He completed six of 16 passes for 104 yards and threw an interception and had three rushes for minus 3 yards.
Beaver, a linebacker-running back from Fred T. Foard High, had a game-best seven tackles and one assist. Four of his tackles were for 17 yards in lost yardage and he had a sack on a third-and-goal play that went for minus-6 yards.
Landrum was named the game’s Offensive MVP, finishing with five catches for 97 yards.
Anderson came in for West starting quarterback Milak Sarratt (Shelby) on third down during a fourth quarter drive that began at the West 24 with 8:40 to play. Anderson rushed for 9 yards, setting up a 2-and-1, and then hit Landrum on a 43-yard scoring pass.
The West led 23-14 after Andrew McKay (A.C. Reynolds) converted the PAT.
The East pulled within two points by driving 93 yards on seven plays in 85 seconds, scoring on a 15-yard pass from Zach Sabdo (Havelock) to Chris Coleman (Jacksonville) with 15 seconds to play.
After the ensuing kickoff, the West ran one play and the clock then ran out.
Other players from Greater Hickory area conferences who played for the winning West team included wide receiver Bernard Briley (West Iredell), offensive lineman Dalton Stepps (West Caldwell) and linebacker Charles Tassinari (Hibriten). Briley and Tassinari are also LRU signees.
Briley — who played his senior year at West Iredell after playing at Bunker Hill — started at wide receiver and finished with five catches for 91 yards that included a 58-yard catch from Sarratt in a scoring drive that pulled the West within 14-10 in the third quarter.
Tassanari had one tackle and one assist while Stepps started at left guard.
