OTHER AREA PLAYERS

ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — who starred in high school at Hickory and in college at Charlotte – is an outfielder for the Shorebirds. He was not in the lineup on Sunday when Lakewood (N.J.) beat Delmarva 5-3 before 2,529.

Delmarva dropped to 41-37 overall and 6-5 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings.

In 74 games this season, Jarrett’s batting .309 with 17 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs. He has 88 hits, third in the league hias on-base percentage of 374 ties him for sixth in the SAL.

Jarrett’s hitting .286 with no home runs and six RBIs in his last 10 games.

He is among eight SAL hitters at .300 or above and his average is fifth-best in the league. Also, he’s one of 16 in the league with 10 or more home runs (Seuly Matias of Lexington, Ky., leads with 24).

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Former Bandys High star Hayden Deal, a left-hander, did not pitch on Sunday when Rome nipped visiting Kannapolis 6-5 before 1,454. The game was called after 7 ½ innings due to rain.

Deal made his second start (and 16th appearance) on Friday night as Rome nipped host Charleston (S.C.) 1-0. He threw six innings, giving up six hits, no runs, no walked and striking out two before being relieved. Deal threw strikes on 50 of his 80 pitches, got 11 groundball outs and faced 23 batters.

He is 4-1 with an ERA of 2.34 and also has two saves, has issued nine walks and one intentional walk and has 50 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings.

In his last 10 outings, Deal is 3-1 with an ERA of 2.61 in 31 innings pitched with seven walks and 32 strikeouts.

He now has 77 career minor league Ks in 73 innings with a 7-3 record and four saves.

The Braves are 45-35 overall and 5-6 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings. They won the first half, securing a postseason berth.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8) and remains listed as “active” on the Bowie roster.

Harvey is on the Baltimore Orioles’ 40-man roster, so if he were to go on the 60-day disabled list he would be considered on the major league roster during that time.

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Bowie won 12-10 on Sunday at Eric (Pa.) before 2,263 and improved to 36-45 overall.
