ZACH JARRETT (Class A Delmarva, Md.)

Zach Jarrett — a former star at Hickory High and in college at Charlotte – went 0-for-3 on Sunday when Kannapolis beat the Shorebirds 6-0 before 652.

He started in left field and batted third in the lineup.

Jarrett has played 98 games this season, hitting .289 with 19 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 54 RBIs. He is hitting .162 with no home runs and six RBIs in his last 10 games.

Jarrett has 108 hits, second-best in the SAL behind Bret Boswell of Asheville (109). The previous leader (with 110 hits) was Chad Spanberger of Asheville, who now plays for Class A Lansing, Mich., after being part of Colorado’s trade with Toronto this week.

Delmarva is 54-48 and 19-16 in the second half in the SAL Northern Division standings and in fourth place.

HAYDEN DEAL (Class A Rome, Ga.)

Lexington (Ky.) beat visiting Rome 6-5 on Sunday before 3,329 but former Bandys High left-hander Hayden Deal did not pitch.

Is his most recent outing on Thursday night, Deal didn’t get a decision in a 14-5 victory over visiting Columbia (S.C.). He went 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned), walking one and striking out seven.

Deal is 5-1 with an ERA of 2.30 in 21 appearances this season, pitching 62 2/3 innings. He’s hit four batters, intentionally walked one and walked 11 to go with 69 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .207 against him this season.

In his last 10 outings, he’s 1-1 with an ERA of 2.58, pitching 38 1/3 innings with four walks and 34 strikeouts.

Deal is four strikeouts away from 100 in his pro career with 96 in 93 1/3 innings.

The Braves are 57-49 overall and 17-20 in the second-half SAL Southern Division standings.

Rome won a first-half title, securing a postseason berth.

HUNTER HARVEY (Class AA Bowie, Md.)

Former Bandys High star Hunter Harvey is recoving from a shoulder injury sustained while trying to maneuver away from a foul ball into the dugout on a day he was not pitching.

When he twisted to avoid being struck by the ball, his right shoulder popped out of socket.

Harvey is now throwing some and is expected to pitch in a game in Florida on Aug. 4.

He was scratched from his 10th start (June 8).

Harvey is 1-2 with 32 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed 36 hits, 20 runs (all earned), walked eight and struck out 30. His ERA is 5.57.

Bowie finished last in the first-half West Division of the Eastern League, 8 ½ games back of division winner Akron (Ohio).

Harrisburg (Pa.) swept a Sunday doubleheader over visiting Bowie on Sunday, winning seven-inning games 5-4 and 4-3 before 3,175.

The Baysox are 48-57 overall in the Eastern League.
