HICKORY – Hickory had as many errors as Asheville did hits on Thursday night as the Tourists won 6-2 in a South Atlantic League (SAL) baseball game at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Asheville had five hits — four of them from the last four spots in its batting order – to win and drop the Crawdads (41-56, 14-13 second half) deeper in the Northern Division standings.

The series finale is Friday night at 7 p.m. at Frans, before Greenville (S.C.) arrives on Saturday to start a four-game series.

BOSIOKOVIC

Batting sixth through ninth for the Tourists, Max George, Carlos Herrerra, Jacob Bosiokovic and Brian Serven had one hit each. Bosiokovic had the big hit, a three-run home run in the sixth inning that put Asheville (46-49, 17-10) ahead 5-1.

After George and Herrera singled in the sixth, the Crawdads brought in reliever C.D. Pelham. He was greeted by Bosiokovic’s 11th home run of the year.

Brallan Perez and Yohel Pozo each had two of Hickory’s six hits and both hit home runs in the loss. Perez hit his second of the year, a solo shot, in the first inning while Pozo’s first of the year came in the seventh with two outs.

Hickory made five errors – two by Perez and one each by Pozo, Charles Leblanc and starting pitcher Reid Anderson – and Asheville did not trail after scoring twice in the third inning.

In the third, Vince Fernandez had an RBI single and the go-ahead run scored on a passed ball by Pozo.

Breiling Eusebio (2-1) got a win for the Tourists, going six innings. He gave five hits, one run (earned), walked none and struck out three.

Anderson (1-7) took the loss for Hickory. He pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up four hits, four runs (two earned), walking two and striking out three.

A crowd of 1,425 saw the Crawdads fall for the sixth time in eight games, and they are no longer in first place in the Northern Division.

Hagerstown (Md.) was 13-11 and still playing the second game of a doubleheader after falling 6-1 to Charleston (S.C.), with Delmarva (Md.) at 13-12 after beating Augusta 7-3 on Thursday and Greensboro at 13-12 after downing Greenville (S.C.) 5-1 on Thursday night.

A win by Hagerstown in the second game would put the Suns a game up on Delmarva, Greensboro and the Crawdads.

If Charleston (S.C.) wins that second game – it was up 4-2 by 10:40 p.m. on Thursday night — there will be a four-way tie for first place – Hagerstown, Delmarva, Greensboro and Hickory.
